G-SYNC MONITOR | 27-inch | 2560 x 1440 | IPS | 144Hz | 4ms | 350 Nit | 1000:1 | Tilt | Swivel | Pivot | Height | VESA Wall Mounting
Acer XB270HU is one of Acer’s newest monitors and it has taken the world by storm. Since its recent launch, it has become the best-selling new release monitor in various retailers, including Amazon, the world’s largest and most trusted online retailer. It had some problems with the first batch of products, which suffered severe backlight bleeding but the problem has been taken care of now and now you just have to live with the regular IPS backlight bleeding, which is completely unnoticeable when playing games. The product has now undergone quality control tests and you will be getting a high quality monitor if you go and buy one of these right now at any retailer, unless they were from the first few batches that were being sold. Amazon has removed the bad quality ones from their inventory, so will not have to worry about these issues when buying from there.
This monitor for sure has taken the role from ASUS PG278Q as the best gaming monitor 2015, because of the IPS panel which enriches the general color quality and viewing experience of a monitor, be it gaming, everyday use or professional use.
The overall build quality of this monitor is nice and is completely identical to the larger 4K G-SYNC monitor, the Acer XB280HK. The panel itself is coated with an anti-glare coating, which is encased in a glossy and black bezel. The stand is round and black/red, and it offers full adjustments, including height, swivel, tilt and pivot options. That ensures that you can get the best viewing position and allow you to rotate the monitor into portrait mode.’
Under the bottom bezel, you will find five buttons and a power switch. You can use the buttons to navigate the on-screen display menu and select a picture preset, which includes Standard, Movie, Graphics, User and ECO. You can also enable ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), which reduces the motion blur, but you can not use it alongside G-SYNC, because ULMB requires a static refresh rate to strobe the display at. Brightness, Color Temperature, Gamma and Contrast can also be adjusted in the menu.
The first thing you will notice when you start using the monitor is the WQHD (2560 x 1440) 1440p resolution with a refresh rate of an impressive 144Hz. Not only that, but the monitor also supports NVIDIA G-SYNC technology and has an IPS panel (In-Plane Switching) that gives you superior color quality and super good viewing angles. The drawback is the extra 3ms response time, but this is a very little drawback and most people will not notice it at all. Another noteworthy thing to mention is that the input lag on this monitor is quite low, which makes it suited for the FPS gamer too. When you have all these specs and you mix them together, you will get a monitor of the highest caliber and that is exactly what this screen is.
As with most other G-SYNC monitors, the connectivity options are pretty sparse. There is only one DisplayPort 1.2 input, which is required for G-SYNC to work, and three USB 3.0 ports, whereas one of them is upstream and two of them are downstream. You will also find two USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the monitor. Within the package you will receive when you buy the monitor, you will get a 6-inch DisplayPort cable, but that is simply too short for many and you will most likely have to invest in a longer DisplayPort cable if you haven’t got any yet. You simply cant rely on a HDMI converter so you will have to use a DP to DP cable.

Display Quality, Responsiveness and Value For Money
As already discussed, the Acer XB270HU has an IPS panel, which offers a superb color quality and great viewing angles, which means that the colors won’t be shifted when looking at the monitor from the sides, unlike a TN panel for instance. So if you like a great looking monitor with a vibrant and colorful color reproduction, and also the same effects when looking at the screen from different angles and positions. The IPS panel is the best type of panel you can get right now, except OLED, but they are so expensive and impractical for PC monitor usage that they will not even be considered (burn-in, etc.). The downsides with IPS panels are that the technology has backlight bleed problems and a little bit extra response time, but these issues are very minor and play a little role in the overall gaming experience. Factors like screen size, refresh rate, G-SYNC support, resolution and color quality weigh a lot more.
With a response time of just 4ms, this monitor is actually on the very low end of response time considering it is an IPS panel. Most other IPS panels respond slower, which makes this monitor superior in that area too. If you are a very dedicated competitive gamer and every millisecond literally matter then you might want to grab a monitor with lower input lag instead, such as the Asus MG278Q ROG Swift, which has a lower input lag due to the nature of TN panel. For a vast majority of people, the Acer XB270HU will be the best choice right now, since both monitors are similarly priced most places.
The G-SYNC technology, 144Hz refresh rate and 4ms response makes this a very powerful and responsive monitor with low motion blur and responsiveness. The ULMB mode allows you completely get rid of ghosting, which can be annoying for people that play high-paced games. All these features and traits mentioned above makes this monitor the best gaming monitor 2015. More precisely said, the best 27-inch gaming monitor 2015. We generally believe that 27-inch monitors like the Acer Predator XB270HU is suitable for a majority of people, but some people want smaller or larger monitors, so we will review monitors of all sizes here, so stay tuned for other reviews like this Acer XB270HU review for example.
With that said, another disadvantage is the $750 price mark. You certainly get what you pay for, but it is still a lot of money to give for a monitor. In the other hand, you will most likely not change your monitor the next five or so years, so you have to choose wisely and make a good investment. We feel like this monitor has all the good traits a gaming monitor should have, which is why it gets a perfect “value for money” score.
